Prevention Guide: How to Avoid Slips, Trips, and Falls

One of the most common property accidents in Canada includes slip-and-fall incidents.  Generally, these accidents occur because of spilled liquids, food, snow, ice moss, or other forms of buildup on the pavement, leaking pipes or home appliances such as air conditioners, freezers, or refrigerators, broken handrails, torn rugs, or loose flooring.

According to a study, every 4 out of 5 injury hospitalizations among seniors can be attributed to falling accidents. Here are some ways you can prevent slip and fall accidents at your residential property.

Good Housekeeping

Try implementing a 5S system at you’re your office facility (i.e., Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).

Make sure that you’ve installed commendable housekeeping habits at your facility. To ensure proper housekeeping, plan head and assign responsibilities to certain employees regarding the maintenance of equipment and regulation of janitorial services. Try establishing housekeeping practices as a part of the daily routine.

Proper Shoes

The shoes you wear are a critical component of PPE. To avoid slip and fall accidents, ask your employees to wear safe and comfortable shoes, instead of high heels and shoes with a slick sole. Every time, you need to investigate a fall injury, always evaluate the role of footwear in the accident. Make sure that all your employees are wearing footwear, relative to their jobs and the tasks they’re responsible for, at the company.

Proper Lighting

Improper lightening can also lead to slip and fall accidents. Try installing a proper lighting system at the walkways, ramps, staircases, and basement and construction area. Make sur that your site areas are clean and well lit. If you notice any malfunction in the fixtures, cords, or switches, immediately consult an electrician to repair them.
