Refugee portal is an online portal for refugees to claim from inside Canada. If you’re claiming for the first time, then it’s best to hire a lawyer to help you with the whole process. All you need to do is create an account on the portal to get started with the application process.
You will be required to provide your details in the form, such as questions related to your identity, address history, travel documents, job history, and family.

A Basis of Claim (BOC) is a form where you explain why you seek refugee status in Canada. The Refugee Board goes through this form to evaluate if you’re the right choice to claim refugee status. The Board sees if you need protection or rightly fit the Convention refugee definition.
The Refugee Board holds the right to refuse your claim if anything is untrue or missing from the form.
Prepare for the Interview
Once you have uploaded your documents and submitted the form, you will be provided with the information related to the next steps through an email. The email is sent by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), so it’s best to stay active on your email. They will send an appointment for an eligibility interview through an email.
The officer will review your immigration history, information, identity documents, and BOC during the interview. The officer only decides if your claim is valid. They are in no position to refuse or accept your claim.
Once the officer finds your claim to be eligible, your case will be forwarded to the Refugee Board, where the final verdict on your case will be given.
