IRCC made an announcement in September 2020 that they are setting a stiff target of processing 6000 spouse visa Canada applications every month till the end of the year.
After the pandemic slowed down the immigration processing, this announcement has come as a shot in the arm for the thousands of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who had applied for family sponsorship.
Pursuant to the announcement, IRCC settled 4000+ spousal sponsorship applications in September 2020 as compared to less than 2000 in July 2020.
Significant Rise in Spouse Visa Canada Application Processing
In-land spouse visa Canada applications rose to almost 2000 in September 2020 compared to 1200 in July 2020. This rising trend was also visible in overseas applications. In September 2020, over 2000 applications were finalized as compared to nearly 800 in July 2020.
From now on, we can safely expect IRCC to expedite an ever-increasing number of spousal visa applications in 2020.
Spouse Visa Canada – Eligibility Requirements
Do you want to sponsor your wife, husband, or partner in Canada? As a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, you are eligible to sponsor your conjugal partner, spouse, or common-law partner. A few of the eligibility requirements include but are not limited to:
- Sponsor age is more than 18 years
- The sponsor needs to prove that they are not in receipt of any social assistance (except for disability) and can comfortably meet the basic financial needs of their sponsored partner
- If the sponsor is currently residing overseas, they need to prove that they will be returning to Canada to live with their sponsored partner
- The sponsored partner must be above the age of 18 years, and either legally married to the sponsor or must have lived with the sponsor for a minimum of 12 successive months (conjugal partners should satisfy the age criteria apart from other qualifying criteria)
